Task Lighting Mistakes That Drain Your Focus

Harsh overhead light and screen glare are not inevitable. Small lighting changes make long work sessions easier.

Task Lighting Mistakes That Drain Your Focus

If your eyes feel tired by mid-afternoon, lighting is often the quiet culprit. Overhead fluorescents wash out contrast, while a single bright lamp can create hotspots on the desk.

Prefer adjustable task light

A desk lamp with dimming and a flexible arm lets you light paperwork without blasting the monitor.

Watch color temperature

Neutral white (around 4000K) works well for most desks. Very cool light can feel clinical; very warm light can make reading harder.

Reduce bounce glare

Position the lamp to the side of your dominant hand so your hand does not cast a shadow across the page.
